iRobot Roomba Error Codes — Complete List
A Roomba reports problems by turning its light ring red and speaking an error number. On the j Series and Combo 10 Max, the low numbers cover the things owners can fix in a minute — a wheel off the ground, tangled brushes, dirty cliff sensors, a jammed bumper, a missing bin. Each guide follows iRobot's own error chart for those robots.
- Error 1 Roomba Error 1 on a j Series means the left wheel is hanging down or the robot is stuck — put it on a flat surface and press the button.
- Error 2 Roomba Error 2 on a j Series means the two multi-surface rubber brushes cannot spin, almost always because hair or debris is wrapped around them.
- Error 5 Roomba Error 5 on a j Series means the right drive wheel has stalled because something is jamming it.
- Error 6 Roomba Error 6 on a j Series means the cliff sensors are constantly reporting a drop-off, either because the robot is at an edge or the sensors are dirty.
- Error 9 Roomba Error 9 on a j Series means the bumper is registering a constant bump because it is jammed with debris or has been knocked out of place.
- Error 14 Roomba Error 14 on a j Series means the robot cannot detect its bin — reinstall the bin, with the filter in it, and press the button.

iRobot keeps a separate chart for every Roomba series, and numbers do not always carry over between them. Press the button to hear the message again, then check the chart for your series.
