Also shown as F3E2 on some models.

By Callum Griffin · Researched and verified against manufacturer and repair documentation · Reviewed September 2026

F3 E2 means there may be a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the warming drawer sensor on models that have one, or the wiring — reset power for a minute and book service if it returns.

What this code means

Whirlpool says F3 E2 may indicate a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the warming drawer sensor (if so equipped), or the associated wiring. These sensors report temperature to the control; when a reading is missing or implausible the control raises an F3 code.

The warming drawer sensor only applies to ranges with a warming drawer. F3 E0 and F3 E1 have their own guides.

Frequently asked questions

What is the oven temperature sensor?

A probe inside the oven cavity that reports the temperature to the control. Whirlpool lists it as a possible cause of F3 E2.

My range has no warming drawer — does F3 E2 still apply?

Yes. Whirlpool names the warming drawer sensor only "if so equipped"; the oven sensor and wiring remain possible causes.

Can I bake with F3 E2 showing?

Not reliably. The control cannot trust its temperature reading, so have it checked first.
