Traeger Pellet Grill Error Codes — Complete List
Traeger's older grills — the ones with a 3-digit digital controller and no WiFIRE — report trouble with short codes: LEr and HEr for a fire that died or ran away, and the Er-numbered codes for a sensor, fan, ignitor or auger the controller can no longer see. Every guide here is taken from Traeger's own support article for that code.
- LEr LEr (Low Error Reading) means a non-WiFIRE Traeger dropped below 125°F for more than 10 minutes, so the fire is out and the grill has shut itself down.
- HEr HEr (High Error Reading) means a non-WiFIRE Traeger climbed past 550°F — most often a grease flare-up — and switched itself off as a safety precaution.
- Er1 (Err) Er1 (or Err) on a non-WiFi Traeger means the RTD temperature probe has a poor connection to the controller or has come disconnected altogether.
- Er2 Er2 on a non-WiFi Traeger means the RTD temperature probe itself has failed and needs replacing.
- Er4 Er4 on a non-WiFi Traeger means the controller has lost its connection to the induction fan that feeds air to the fire.
- Er5 (Er3) Er5 (or Er3) on a non-WiFi Traeger means the grill's ignitor — the hot rod that lights the pellets — is disconnected.
- Er7 Er7 on a Traeger without WiFi means the auger has jammed, and the controller has a built-in routine that tries to free it.
Don't see your code?
WiFIRE grills with a touchscreen or colour display use different messages. If that is your grill, look the message up under Traeger's WiFIRE errors instead of relying on these pages.
